A carefully designed proposal

Bordeaux Estates, Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, and LNT Care Developments, the UK’s leading developer of purpose-built dementia and residential care homes, are excited to announce plans for a new, larger replacement food store and new care home at a site in Wolf Business Park in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.

Our joint proposals would see a larger, replacement Aldi food store and a new care home located on the northern edge of Wolf Business Park, south of Gloucester Road and east of its junction with Alton Road. The site, which is currently hosting a car park and several businesses, will be transformed into a modern store and state-of the-art care home offering the highest standards of social inclusion, community and wellbeing in the sector. Collectively the proposals represent a significant economic investment of approximately £9.7 million into the community. The care home would be operated by LNT Care Developments’ sister company, Crystal Care Collection, a provider offering superior standards of living and support for residents.

Aldi aims to provide flexible jobs for local people. If approved, the new, larger Aldi food store would transfer the existing jobs from its current store and would hire up to 10 additional employees, paid at an industry leading rate. The care home would create between 50 and 60 local jobs with competitive salaries and opportunities for career progression. An agreement has been reached with a retailer to occupy Aldi’s existing store upon relocation, which is expected to create a further 40-50 jobs.

Improved supermarket choice for local residents

Aldi would like to offer residents in Ross-on-Wye better access to our low-cost, high-quality products.

Although our existing town centre store is very popular with residents, due to its size, we are unable to offer a larger range of products to the local community. There is no room to expand our offering in its current location; as such, we are preparing proposals for a new, larger store with better access and a more modern design.

Our existing store will continue to trade until our new store at Wolf Business Park is open. Aldi would also transfer all employees from the existing store and create additional employment during the construction phase and through the supply chain.

Aldi is keen to improve consumer choice and competition. A new store at this site would improve the local retail offering and ensure that the local community has more access to Aldi’s award-winning range of low-cost, high-quality products.

The need for a
new care home

The UK population is rapidly ageing; the number of people aged 65 to 70 is projected to increase by 30% over the next decade, peaking at 10 million by 2060. Within the same timeframe, the 80+ age group is projected to double, reaching 6 million.

Meanwhile, the UK’s existing care home supply is increasingly outdated, with 75% of spaces more than 20 years old and only 35% offering en-suite facilities. There is a clear need for new, high-quality care home spaces focused on creating socially inclusive communities for older residents, meeting modern expectations of what a care home should offer.

Community Consultation

Bordeaux Estates, Aldi, and LNT Care Developments, value community involvement when proposing new developments. To this end, we will hold a community consultation to gather insights from the local community before submitting a formal planning application.

This community consultation will be open to comments from Thursday 16th July until midnight, Thursday 30th July 2026. This website will remain accessible throughout the entire planning process. An in-person consultation event will take place on Thursday 23rd July at The Larruperz Community Centre, Grammar School Close, Ross-on-Wye, HR9 7QD between 2pm and 7pm, where you can meet the project team, view the plans, and ask any questions you may have.

Once the community consultation concludes, Bordeaux Estates, Aldi, and LNT Care Developments will carefully review all the feedback received. This will play a vital role in shaping the planning application we submit to Herefordshire Council in the subsequent months.
